Three big Differences between
Plant Cells |
And |
animal cells |
What are cells?
A cell is the smallest unit of life. There are many different types of cells, and every plant and animal has them. Cells have many different parts (organelles) that all play their own part in the operation of the cell. Cells have their own "heart" called the nucleus which helps the cell function. They also have "skin" called the cell membrane and other components. Plant and animal cells are similar in many ways but are also different in many ways. Some ways bigger than others. Cells also have roles in the organism to keep it working. There are many different roles such as white blood cells, and red blood cells. Every roll is equally as important as the others; if one fails it could be catastrophic. On this page, we will be focusing on organelles and differences.

There are three different organelles, the cell wall, chloroplast and vacuole all of which play a big role for the plant cell.
How is the Vacuole different: The Vacuole does not seem different at first glance but actually is. The Vacuole in a plant cell is much larger than in an animal cell. The reason that the plants vacuoles are larger is because the vacuole gives the cells a place to store food, water, and nutrients so when plants create food it gets stored in the vacuole until its needed to be use, but an animals vacuole is smaller because it has to find its food so the food it finds is not stored for as long and is used almost immediately .
What is the cell wall? A cell wall provides support for the cell. The cells wall helps maintain the organisms structure. The cell wall also helps protect the organism from its environment. Gas and water can pass thought the cell walls pores to reach the organism.
What is the chloroplast? Chloroplasts are small parts of a plant cell the contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll uses sun light to create food for the plant. Chloroplasts make it so that plants can create sugar which every other living organism needs to survive.
Animal cell do not have both cell walls or chloroplasts but they do have vacuoles.

Cell wallCell walls are the reason plants are hard. Different densities of wood are based on how hard the cell walls are!

ChloroplastThe reason leaves are green is because chlorophyll is green and when the plant cell creates chlorophyll it goes into the leaves and turns them green too. During Autumn trees remove the chlorophyll from the leave and store it in the branches/trunk. When this occurs the leave appear no longer green.

VacuoleThe vacuole is like a counter top but not a fridge. You can put your food on the counter for a short while until eating it but you don't want to leave it there for to long. The fridge would be the Golgi body storing food for a prolonged time.

Vocabulary you may not know
Organelles: The different parts within a living cell
Red Blood Cells: Blood cells that cary fresh oxygen throughout the body. They look like round donuts without the hole.
Organism: A grouping of cells that carry on the activities of live, including growing and reproducing.
